Rehearsal Schedule

Susan Antonetti, piccoloSusan Antonetti plays piccolo with the Little Rock Wind Symphony and is the flute instructor and conductor of the wind ensemble at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is also a member of The Class Flute Quartet and the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble.
   Antonetti has been a band director for middle school, junior high and high school bands. Her bands at Bryant High School earned statewide, regional and national acclaim. She is a past president of the Arkansas Bandmasters Association.
   Antonetti graduated cum laude from Arkansas Tech University at Russellville with a B.A. in Music Education, and magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a M.M. in Music Performance with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting. She studies flute with Christina Smith and the Alexander Technique with Clifford Hicks.
Sharon Burrall, principal fluteSharon Burrall joined the LRWS in 2003 as principal flutist. She maintains an active performance schedule as vocalist as well as flutist. In addition, she has been a music educator for 26 years and has directed choirs from the elementary level through high school. She is the music specialist for third through fifth grade students at Don Roberts Elementary School where she founded the Children's Choir. You can often hear her accompany her music classes on guitar. And as if that is not enough, she is also the pianist at Highland Valley United Methodist Church.
   Burrall is a graduate of Henderson State University, where she studied flute with David Etienne and voice with Theresa McCrae. Her professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Educators, National Flute Association, American Choral Director's Association and the American Orff Schulwerk Association.
Shannon Clardy, principal oboeShannon Clardy, a native of The Colony, Texas, has been principal oboist of the Little Rock Wind Symphony since 2004. She has bachelor's degrees in music performance and physics from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and has a doctorate of applied physics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
   Clardy is an Assistant Professor of Physics and Adjunct Professor of Oboe at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, where she regularly performs with ensembles at HSU. She has performed under many notable conductors, including Frederick Fennell, Andrew Litton, Eduardo Mata, Keri-Lynn Wilson, H. Robert Reynolds, Gary Garner and Richard Giangiulio.
   In addition to her musical activities, Clardy is an active researcher in astronomy with interests in high mass X-ray binary systems and cataclysmic variable stars. She is involved in a NASA IDEAS grant to introduce astronomy activities to middle school and high school classrooms.
Little Rock native Steven Davis is a charter member of the Little Rock Wind Symphony. During his tenure with the LRWS he has played all the soprano clarinet parts. Prior to joining the LRWS in 1993, Davis was a member of the the Community Band at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.    Davis has been an instructor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the last 30 years. He earned a Bachelor Science with a double major in physics and mathematics from UALR, where he also minored in music. He has a masters degree in physics from the University of Notre Dame, where he was principal clarinetist in the orchestra as well as the symphonic band.
Robert Anderson, clarinetRobert Anderson is Adjunct Professor of Clarinet and Bassoon at Hendrix College. Before joining Hendrix in 1999, Anderson taught at Baker University and Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, N.Y., where he freelanced with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and performed at the Lincoln Center Library. Anderson has been a member of the Wichita Symphony, Oklahoma Sinfonia (principal), Seminar for Classical Music (principal, Eisenstadt, Austria), Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra.
   Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts from Arkansas Tech University; a Master of Music in bassoon performance from Wichita State University; and pursued doctoral studies in clarinet performance at the University of Iowa.
Tricia Leyva, clarinetOklahoma native Tricia Leyvahas been a member of the LRWS clarinet section since 2003, and also subs on the keyboard. She has been the director of bands for Benton High School since 2008, and prior to that was the director of bands at Central Arkansas Christian School and Little Rock Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School. She is a member of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity.    Leyva received a Bachelor of Music Education from Harding University and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Texas.
Kelly Keck, clarinetClarinetist Kelly Keck is a charter member of the LRWS and teaches music at Forest Park Elementary School. He has enjoyed teaching band and elementary music for the past 30 years and in 2007 he was named the Arkansas PTA Teacher of the Year.
   Keck graduated from Little Rock Mills High School where he was an all-state trumpet player. He switched to clarinet when he began college at Arkansas Tech University, where he earned the Bachelor of Science in Education degree. He received his Master of Music Education degree from the University of Arkansas. He studied clarinet with Earl Allain and Dr. Richard Fletcher.
Bob Bidewell, keyboardBob Bidewell, a native of Poplar Bluff, Mo., joined the Little Rock Wind Symphony in 2001 as keyboard and bass clarinetist, and is the symphony's librarian.
   Bidewell was a charter member of the Northeast Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and played with that group for 25 years before moving to central Arkansas. He was a band director for 10 years in northeast Arkansas, taught piano at Lyon College, and served as staff accompanist at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.
   He has worked in church music for more than 30 years, and is the organist and director of music at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
   Bidewell holds the bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Arkansas State University. He studied organ with Dr. Ervin Dunham, Harriet O'Neal, and Dr. Jane Gamble, and his piano studies were with Dr. James Patty and Dr. Theron Waddle.
Bandi Coleman Avance, bass clarinetBandi Coleman Avance joined LRWS in 2009 as bass clarinetist. She is the pianist for Otter Creek Baptist Church and a piano teacher with Piano Lessons in Your Home. She plays piano and bass clarinet for special events, and arranges cantatas for choral groups. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano from Ouachita Baptist University.
Terril Zylman, principal saxophoneTerril Zylman has been a professional musician for more than 30 years. He has played alto and soprano saxophone with the Little Rock Wind Symphony since its beginning in 1993.
   He has played with some of the leading artists in the country including: the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra with Warren Covington, The Lawrence Welk Orchestra, Henry Mancini, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Harry Connick, Jr., The Temptations, and The Four Tops. He continues to plays shows and does studio work. His first CD, "Moods of Inspiration," was recorded as a tribute to his late parents.
   In addition to his professional playing career, Zylman has had a distinguished career in teaching and is listed in the Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He has conducted music clinics in schools across the country.
   He received his bachelor of arts degree in music from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and his masters of arts degree in music from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.
Andy Wen, alto saxophoneLRWS alto saxophonist Andy Wen joined LRWS in 2010. He is Associate Professor of Saxophone, Clarinet and Theory at University of Arkansas at Little Rock as well as an active soloist. He has performed in twenty-three states and ten foreign countries. His performances include concertos with bands and orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber concerts. He has premiered two concertos that were written for him and has premiered over twenty solo and chamber compositions.
   He presented the first saxophone recital in the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1992. He has performed at conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA), World Saxophone Congress, Association de Saxophone de France, Southeast Composers League, Hawaii International Conference of Arts and Humanities, American School Band Directors Association, Etats Generaux Mondiaux du Saxophone, United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, Georgia Music Teachers Association, Ohio Music Teachers Association, Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association, and Music Teachers National Association.
   He received his DMA from the University of Georgia, studying saxophone with Kenneth Fischer and clarinet with Theodore Jahn; MM from Indiana University, studying saxophone with Eugene Rousseau and clarinet with Earl Bates; BM from Ohio University, studying saxophone with Allyn Reilly and clarinet with David Godshall; Medaille d'Argent at the Conservatoire National de Region de Bordeaux, France, studying with Jean-Marie Londeix.
Ashley Veatch, principal hornAshley Veatch, principal horn, joined the LRWS in 2008. She is a native of Nebraska who was transplanted as a youth to Texas. She relocated to Arkansas to attend Harding University where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
   Veatch is a member of the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, and is a founding member of the Searcy Brass Quintet. She is a private horn instructor and an active member of the International Horn Society.
   In addition to her musical activities, Veatch performs foreign and domestic mission work, serves on the board of directors for Searcy Children's Homes, and works with the regional and national chapters of the American Iris Society.
Elizabeth Taylor, euphoniumElizabeth Taylor joined the LRWS in 2009 and is the principal euphonium. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas and is a graduate of The American School of Kuwait. While attending school in Kuwait, she had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the Middle East to play in ensembles under Jerry Luckhardt, Anthony Maielllo, and Jerry Junkin. She studied euphonium with Royce Lumpkin, Russell Pettit, and Benjamin Pierce.
   Taylor is the choir director at Sylvan Hills Middle School. Prior to that, she was a band director in Prescott, Arkansas. She is a former member of the Ozark Mountains British Brass Band where she played baritone as well as euphonium.
Michael Chance, principal tromboneMichael Chance is the Director of Bands at Harding University, a position he has held since 1996 after a 21-year career directing high school bands and orchestras in Texas public schools. He is the LRWS's assistant conductor as well as principal trombone. He directs the Searcy Community Band and is a board member of the Searcy Community School of Music.
   Chance has been a member of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, the Red River Lyric Opera Orchestra, the San Angelo Community Band, and for twelve seasons was principal trombonist with the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra, and the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
   Chance holds a Bachelor of Arts in music with teacher certification from Lubbock Christian University, a Master of Music in trombone performance from Midwestern State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Memphis.
Allen Price, tromboneAllen J. Price, originally from Monroe, Louisiana, has been a member of the Little Rock Wind Symphony trombone section since 2006.
   In addition to playing trombone and euphonium, Price performs frequently as soloist in jazz and rock groups as a bassist, singer, and keyboardist. He has performed with Tonya Leeks, the Watson James Jazz Jive Jesters, and the Jazz X-Treme Big Band.
   Price has served as a high school band director as well as director of the pep band at Hendrix College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Harding University.
Greg Lindstrom, principal tubaGreg Lindstrom, a native of Michigan, started playing the tuba in fifth grade. And he never wanted to play anything else.
   He has been the principal tuba with the Little Rock Wind Symphony since 2005, and he has been a member of the Quapaw Brass Quintet since 1998.
   Lindstrom moved to Arkansas many years ago to attend Harding University in Searcy where he got a degree in mathematics. He got his masters in computational mathematics at Texas A&M University before starting work at NASA in solar physics. He currently designs software for the healthcare industry.
   Through the years, he studied tuba with Leonard Falcone, Harvey Phillips, Rex Conners, and Andy Anders.
 
RickStein, principal percussionRick Stein, a native of Toledo, Ohio, has been principal percussionist with the Little Rock Wind Symphony since 2001. He is the choral director and assistant band director at Perryville High School, and is a member of the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra.
   He has been a member of the Elkhart Symphony Orchestra and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, and has served in churches in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Arkansas.
   Stein has a bachelor's degree in church music from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and a master's degree in church music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He studied percussion with Robert Bell at the University of Toledo, Bob Tillis at DePaul University, and James Rago at the University of Louisville.
